Principal Guest:  Dr Cathy McClay OBE FREng,
Head of Trading and Optimisation

Cathy is responsible for the trading and optimisation of Sembcorp’s 1GW portfolio in the GB market and has over 15 years’ experience in the electricity industry.  Prior to joining Sembcorp,  she was Head of Future Markets at National Grid SO.  In this role Cathy was responsible for delivering the strategy and tools to the electricity control room to balance the system in real time.

Previously she has worked for several energy companies in the UK, France and the Netherlands,

Cambridge in the mathematical modelling of induction motors and is a Fellow of the IET.  In September 2019 Cathy was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in recognition of her outstanding and continuing contribution to the profession.

Guest Speaker:  Mandy Hickson, Former Royal Air Force Fast Jet (Tornado) Pilot

One of the first female pilots on her frontline Tornado GR4 squadron, flying multi-million-pound fast jets for the Royal Air Force, Mandy worked in a constantly challenging, yet exhilarating environment.  She offers a unique insight into this elite world, supported by anecdotes about her time on the front line. She demonstrates the vital importance of remaining calm under pressure and leading, quite literally, from the front, in order to get the best from herself and her team.   With frankness and humour, Mandy talks about the strategies she employed to succeed in her high-flying, high-risk role.  Here are just a few of the things people say about her: “Fantastic speaker!” “Told her inspirational story with energy, humour and passion.”  “Brilliant film footage.”  “With energy and passion, and a great deal of humour, Mandy took our

delegates into her world where she demonstrated through her stories and anecdotes that anything is possible just so long as you commit and focus.”
