Based in the Derwent Valley of the Derbyshire Dales situated within The Unesco Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
Visit and talk at Cromford Mills, canal cruise with picnic
lunch, Pumphouse visit, and dinner (optional), to suit
members and guests (over 18).
Wednesday 8th June
10.00 – 12.30 Guided group visit to Cromford Mills and Village, tea/coffee upon arrival. Short walk to canal.
13.00 – 13.45 Outbound Cromford canal boat trip from Cromford Wharf through countryside, commentary, with picnic lunch on board. Note canal boat unable to accommodate people in wheelchairs.
13.45 – 15.00 Visit to Leawood Pumphouse which will be in steam.
15.00 -
15.15 – 16.00 Return to Cromford Wharf.
19.00 Dinner at Cavendish Hotel (optional). 11 miles from Cromford.
Optional Thursday 9th June
Chatsworth House, 2 miles from Cavendish, guided tour of the gardens including the contributions of Capability Brown and Joseph Paxton. After lunch free time to visit the house.

Directions to Cromford Mills
By car: Cromford stands on the A6, 17 miles north of Derby. It is within easy reach of the M1 – about 20 minutes. Satnav – please use postcode DE4 3RQ. Car parking at mill is close to canal. Birmingham 1hr 30 min, Manchester 1hr 45 min.
By train: there is a regular service between Derby and Matlock which stops at Cromford. The trains are operated by East Midlands Trains. Train times can be consulted on their website.
By bus: there are two services from Derby, the TransPeak and the 6.1, both operated by Trent Barton, telephone: 01773 712265. Full bus information and timetable is available on their website.
