Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

It is a requirement of your registration with Engineering Council that you maintain a record of your CPD.  Starting this year, IPowerE is required by Engineering Council to monitor and assess the CPD of those who are registered through our Institution.

As with every profession, it is important that we, as engineers, keep up-to-date with developments in our respective fields to ensure that our knowledge and competence is maintained so as to do our jobs to the best of our ability.

Each year IPowerE will contact a random sample of our registrants and ask them to submit their CPD for assessment.  In preparation for this, would you please ensure that your CPD record is up-to-date and that you maintain it going forward.

There is no prescribed format on which you should hold your CPD record, however it may be helpful to use the spreadsheet which has been created.   See example below.

Remember that CPD extends beyond your normal work activity and may include other training and experience – eg public speaking, working with local council and committees etc.

As a registrant who achieved your qualification through a company-based scheme it is likely that your career development within the company will contribute significantly to your CPD record.  However, do remember that you are responsible for maintaining your own CPD record which may include more than your company training or career development record.

Each year we will be contacting a random sample of registrants to request submission of their CPD.  This may include you – so be ready!

If you have any queries about this process, or wish to discuss it in more detail, please contact us on (01234) 214340 or email enquiries@ipowere.org.
